Abstract

This abstract provides an overview of the relationship between Bhakti Yoga, a spiritual practice rooted in devotion, and mental health. Bhakti Yoga is one of the paths of yoga described in ancient Indian texts and emphasizes unwavering devotion and love for a higher power, often expressed through prayer, chanting, and acts of selfless service. This paper explores the potential benefits of Bhakti Yoga on mental health, drawing on both traditional wisdom and contemporary research. Bhakti Yoga's primary focus on cultivating love and devotion towards a divine entity is seen as a powerful tool for enhancing mental well-being. The practice can promote a sense of inner peace, reduce stress and anxiety, and contribute to improved emotional resilience. Devotees often report increased feelings of joy, contentment, and connectedness to a larger purpose, all of which are associated with positive mental health outcomes. This paper also delves into contemporary scientific research that supports the potential therapeutic benefits of Bhakti Yoga for mental health. Studies have shown that practices involving meditation, prayer, and chanting can lead to reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, improved self-esteem, and a greater overall sense of well-being.
