AXIOLOGICAL STUDIES IN THE SIVA SAMHITA SCRIPTURE (TEXT AND CONTEXT ANALYSIS TOWARDS SPRITUAL AWARENESS)

Abstract

            The Siva Samhita is one of the three major extant classical treatises expounding hatha yoga, the other two being the Gheranda Samhita and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. It is considered the most comprehensive treatise on hatha yoga, recommending that all people can practice and benefit from doing yoga. The Siva Samhita states that one can practice yoga and benefit from the practice. Many English translations of the Shiva Samhita havebeenmade. This research was conducted by the author to determine the role of axiology in the Siva Samhita text in achieving spiritual awareness. The theories used are structural theory and semiotic theory.

This research uses document and library data collection methods. The data analysis technique used is qualitative in nature with a descriptive presentation. The results of this research showed that: (1) The Siva Samhita Scripture is a summary of Siva containing practical and spiritual knowledge, which was conveyed from Siva to Goddess Parvati, consisting of five chapters and 517 slokas; (2) There are six analyses of axiological studies in the Siva Samhita text, namely: 1) Yoga Ethics as the Initial Stage of Sadhana; 2) The Role of Asana in Improving Holistic Health; 3) Prana and Pranayama as Vital Energy in Increasing Strength and Health; 4) Mudras and Bandhas: Mystical Hand Gestures and Energy Locks to Increase Positive Energy and Spiritual Awareness; 5) Chakra-Kundalini: Metaphysical Energy Center as a Force in Achieving Prosperity and Spiritual Awareness; and 6) Mantra: Sacred Sounds or Syllables That Provide Spiritual Energy.
