Abstract

Yoga is a comprehensive, age-old practice that integrates mental, physical, and spiritual disciplines. The importance of yoga has grown significantly within the medical field. Yoga has been discovered to provide several health advantages including the immune system. This systematic review summarizes the findings of randomized controlled trials examining the effects of yoga on the immune system. Four RCTs were eligible for the review. Even though the existing evidence is not entirely consistent, a general pattern emerged suggesting that yoga can downregulate pro-inflammatory markers. In particular, the qualitative evaluation of RCTs revealed decreases in some pro-inflammatory parameters and improved immunity through increasing indicators of immune function. These results imply that yoga may be implemented as a complementary intervention for increasing health. Since this field of study is still limited overall, there is currently little evidence and more research is needed to draw firm conclusions for immunological parameters.
